The Los Angeles Rams and Wade Phillips agree to a deal as new defensive coordinator

The Los Angeles Rams have reportedly agreed to a 3-year contract with Wade Phillips as their new defensive coordinator, according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

This announcement comes shortly after the Rams named Sean McVay as their new head coach. Phillips is more than twice the age of McVay, but is a respected coach in the NFL.

Phillips has been around the league for numerous years, but his most recent stint with the Denver Broncos included him overseeing a Super Bowl winning defense. By many regards, the Broncos’ defense is what allowed them to win Super Bowl 50, and some of that credit does go to Phillips.

The Rams certainly could use a different perspective after taking a step backward with this year’s defense. Phillips will still have access to one of the best defensive lines in the league, and may have a few ideas in terms of changing up the defensive scheme. Many changes likely to still come to the coaching personnel and roster.
