2016-Present

Sean McVay named head coach of the L.A. Rams, Les Snead remains GM

The Los Angeles Rams named Washington Redskins Offensive Coordinator Sean McVay as their 28th head coach in franchise history on Thursday, January 12. General manager Les Snead was also confirmed to retain his position for the upcoming season.

Sean McVay is officially the youngest coach in NFL history at age 30. He’s a driven offensive guru, who may provide the spark this Rams organization needs. The Rams looked to experience when they hired Jeff Fisher in 2012, but it only led to the Rams drowning in mediocrity. This time around, the Rams swung for the fences by hiring one of the brightest young minds in football. McVay has proven he knows how to run a competent offense and could do wonders to turn the NFL’s worst offense in 2016.

McVay had a rapid rise through the NFL ranks. He joined the Redskins staff at the age of 24 in 2010 as their assistant tight ends coach. In 2014, McVay was named offensive coordinator. He did an outstanding job with the Redskins offense, helping mold Kirk Cousins into a franchise quarterback and led an offense that ranked third in total yards this season. In addition to McVay’s success with the passing game, he was able to field a competent rushing attack with no name players like Matt Jones and Rob Kelley. He’ll have plenty of tools at his disposal in the Rams offense and should do wonders for Jared Goff and Todd Gurley.

Les Snead and his new head coach have a lot of work to do before free agency begins in March. Expect coordinator announcements in the coming days.
