The Los Angeles Rams’ struggles continued in a devastating 30-23 loss at home to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, December 16. The loss drops the Rams’ lead for the No. 2 seed to one game over the Chicago Bears.
Los Angeles focused on getting star running back Todd Gurley the ball early. His touchdown gave the Rams an early 7-3 lead over the Eagles. Unfortunately, a knee injury forced Gurley out of the game for much of the second and third quarters.
Meanwhile, former Rams quarterback Nick Foles continued his mastery over his former team. Foles completed 24 of 31 passes for 270 yards and an interception. When Foles wasn’t tormenting the Rams secondary, Eagles running backs were rushing all over the Los Angeles defense.
Yet it was wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey that stole the show for the Eagles. His eight catches for 160 yards proved huge, especially in the third quarter. He torched the Rams secondary throughout the game, putting the Eagles offense in excellent situations deep in Rams’ territory.
However, Jared was the story of the day for the Rams. He often rushed his throws and was inaccurate all night. Goff did bring his team within striking distance late, but a Jojo Natson fumble destroyed the Rams’ hopes. The Rams got the ball back one last time, but they ran out of time.
Goff completed 35 of 54 passes for 339 yards and two interceptions in the loss. Gurley led the Rams in rushing with 48 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.
The Rams hit the road to face the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday, December 23.
