The Los Angeles Rams announced on the team’s Twitter account this morning the addition of rookie DE Jachai Polite to their practice squad. This move comes days after the Rams lost their 2019 seventh round pick Dakota Allen to the Oakland Raiders.
The former Florida Gator was originally drafted by the New York Jets in the third round, 68th overall, of the 2019 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, Polite did not meet the standards the Jets were hoping for and was cut before the start of the season. The Seattle Seahawks decided to take a chance on him and promptly signed him to their practice squad, but was cut later.
At one point, Polite was a highly touted prospect. Some even thought of Polite being a top 10 prospect early in the scouting process. The Rams did have them on their radar and even invited him to a pre-draft visit. He didn’t have the best NFL Combine and reportedly tanked the interview process, which are some of the reasons he dropped to the third round.
Still, if Polite can compose himself and focus on football, the Rams might have scored on a talented prospect. It won’t be easy considering he’s already been cut by two teams, but if anyone can reach his full potential, it’s Wade Phillips. We can’t expect Polite to make the roster any time soon, but he could eventually make the roster if he focuses on the game.
