Recently converted St. Louis Rams tight end Mason Brodine sustained a broken ankle during the Rams’ preseason loss against the New Orleans Saints. Head coach Jeff Fisher announced that Brodine will be out for the season.
The Rams’ coaching staff thought that Brodine could potentially contribute as a big red zone target. The 6’7, 284-pound behemoth ventured from the Rams and Raiders practice squads while entering into his fourth-year in the NFL. The Rams are loaded with talent in all areas of the defensive line, so it was his only way of making the Rams’ roster, despite not having any experience at the TE position.
Brodine originally played defensive end in college with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but he didn’t see much playing time at the position in the pros. He will have to wait until his ankle fully recovers in order to see if the position switch will work.
