St. Louis Rams sixth-round pick Bud Sasser has been released due to a medical condition. Sasser reportedly has a pre-existing heart condition that didn’t allow him to pass multiple physicals, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
The former Missouri Tiger signed a rookie contract earlier in the week, but the release voids the contract. The Rams made the decision after seeking several different opinions, but all concluded the same result. Sasser will pick up $113,737 from his signing bonus.
Sasser was expected to compete for playing time, and was thought to be a big end zone target. Losing Sasser does leave the Rams thin at wide receiver, which could lead to a more intense competition during the offseason.
Sasser was a key contributor to Missouri’s offense. He snagged 77 receptions for 1,003 receiving yards and caught 12 touchdown passes during his senior season.
