The injury bug appears to be creeping up on the St. Louis Rams, this time infecting center Barrett Jones due to a minor surgical procedure on his back. Jones will miss the rest of the preseason and possibly some time after that according to ESPN.com beat writer Nick Wagoner.
It’s difficult to place a timetable on a back injury. Jones is likely not going to miss the season, but it is possible that he may miss a good chunk of 2014. In any case, this isn’t what Jones needed considering he was injured the majority of last season as well.
The Rams are already running thin at the center position since rookie Demetrius Rhaney was carted off the field during practice late last week. Rhaney had an MRI which revealed no major damage and has been called a “severe bone bruise” in his knee. No timeframe is available with Rhaney’s injury; it just depends on how quickly the bruise heals.
Both Jones and Rhaney are inexperienced and could have used some preseason snaps to learn the system. The depth behind Scott Wells is now Tim Barnes, versatile linemen Mike Person, and the inexperienced Brandon Washington.
