Rams fall short in ‘Battle for L.A.’ against the Chargers, 21-19.

The Rams lose the first round of the “battle for Los Angeles” against the Chargers with a final score of 21-19 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, August 26.

Rams starting quarterback Jared Goff struggled, completing 5/8 passes for 56 yards and one interception. Joey Bosa forced a fumble by stripping Goff of the football, which caused a 76-yard fumble return by Melvin Ingram. The Rams struggled both offensively and defensively early on allowing the Chargers to score all 21 of their points in the first quarter.

The Rams rallied back in the second half to make things a little more competitive. Sean Mannion stepped up, finishing 16/29, for 214 yards and one touchdown.  His 38-yard touchdown pass to rookie WR Josh Reynolds made the game seem more competitive. But the Rams fell short, ending their brief winning streak in the preseason.

It’s important to note that the Rams were without the services of key players like Todd Gurley, Tavon Austin, Cooper Kupp and of course Aaron Donald. The Rams’ last preseason game will take place in Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, August 31 at 4:00 p.m. PT.
