Being selected to the Pro Bowl is an annual honor that every player in the NFL aspires to during the course of their career. This year, four Los Angeles Rams earned their place at the 2019 Pro Bowl, which will be in Orlando, Florida.
Yet the honor of being voted into the game is more than the actual event. These players have reached a milestone that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Here is a look at the four Rams selected to the Pro Bowl:
QB Jared Goff
Rams quarterback Jared Goff earned his second consecutive Pro Bowl selection. Coming in a year in which he once again started every game, he showed off his arm and accuracy from the first game of the season.
One of his best games of the year came in a Thursday night showdown against the Minnesota Vikings. He led the Rams to a 38-31 win and finished the game with a perfect passer rating (158.3) for the first time. Goff completed 26 of 33 passes for 465 yards and five touchdowns in the victory.
Now in his third season, Goff has posted outstanding numbers through 14 games. Goff has already surpassed 4,000 yards (4,273), with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions (most of which came in the last two games). He’s led the Rams to a second consecutive NFC West title and an 11-3 record.
Goff has seemed even more comfortable in the pocket and executing at an even higher level in his second season under Sean McVay, with the exception of the last two games. After a forgettable first season under former head coach Jeff Fisher, Rams have clearly found their franchise quarterback in Goff.
RB Todd Gurley
Todd Gurley is without question the centerpiece of the Rams’ offense. It should come as no surprise that he’s earned a berth in the Pro Bowl. Gurley has been in the MVP conversation throughout the season and is currently in behind the Dallas Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliot for the rushing title with 1,251 rushing yards.
Gurley’s consistent production in the McVay’s offense has made him the focal point of every opposing defense this season. However, he continually performs at a high level both as a runner or a receiver. His ability to pick up blitzes is underappreciated. He also excels as Goff’s safety valve when plays break down.
This is Todd Gurley’s second consecutive Pro Bowl appearance and third of his four-year career. He’s already on pace to surpass his 2017 rushing numbers (1,305 yards). Gurley recorded 256 carries for 1,251 yards and 17 touchdowns. Additionally, Gurley has 59 receptions for 580 yards and four touchdowns. Combined, he has 1831 total yards from scrimmage with only one fumble this season.
DT Aaron Donald
Aaron Donald is arguably the best defensive lineman in the NFL. This is Donald’s fifth consecutive Pro Bowl. He has posted 16.5 sacks, 32 tackles, four forced fumbles and a even pass defended. To do what Donald has done as an inside defensive lineman is almost incomparable to others at the same position. He even surpasses many outside pass rushers throughout the league.
Donald is the dominant force in the Rams defense, and his selection to the Pro Bowl again comes without question or comparison. It’s almost impossible to write more about him. He’s simply the best there is in the NFL right now.
LB Cory Littleton
Linebacker Cory Littleton has stood out in his first year as a starter in the Rams’ front seven. However, it’s his outstanding special teams play that has earned him a berth in the Pro Bowl for the first time. His speed rush made him a threat to opposing punters across the league, as well as his ability to track and tackle up-and-down the field.
This is a great accomplishment for each of these Rams players and their team as a whole. But as much as this honor means to each of them, it can be assumed that these players, their team and Rams fans alike hope they don’t actually play in the game. There is a bigger goal in mind: the Super Bowl.
The hope is that instead of appearing in Orlando for the Pro Bowl, they will be in Atlanta with their teammates getting ready for the biggest came in their lives. Nonetheless, these four Rams deserve their Pro Bowl honors.
