You know the drill by now. Only three or four more games till the fantasy playoffs. Here are this week’s starts and sits:
Starts
Todd Gurley, RB, Los Angeles – Todd Gurley is probably the biggest fantasy bust of 2016 up to this point. But with Jared Goff stepping in at quarterback this week, Gurley owners have one last hope that Gurley will rediscover the production he has as a rookie. The Dolphins run defense has been spotty this season, and there will be opportunities for Gurley to break free. If Goff can revive the passing game, holes will open up in the running game. We’re all in too deep with Gurley to give up now. He should see plenty of work in Week 11.
CJ Prosise, RB, Seattle – CJ Prosise has went from irrelevance to must start after just one game. Prosise saw the bulk of the work in Week 10, and with the Seahawks cutting Christine Michael, Prosise will be the undisputed starter in Week 11 with Thomas Rawls eventually taking over that role. Rawls will play in Week 11, but it’s unlikely that he’ll see even close to the amount of carries Prosise will see. Prosise is a solid RB2 for the time being.
Tyreek Hill, WR, Kansas City – Tyreek Hill has been sensational replacing the injured Jeremy Maclin, racking up 98 yards on 10 receptions in Week 10. With Maclin likely to miss another game this week, Hill will continue to see plenty of targets. He’s outperformed Maclin this year and is likely to continue to have a role even when he returns. Hill is a solid play this week.
Blake Bortles, QB, Jacksonville – Bortles is bad week after week, and yet somehow finds himself ranking among the top fantasy quarterbacks week after week. He’s had a touchdown in every single game this season with multiple touchdowns in six out of nine games. He’s thrown for under 200 yards in just one game this year. He’s also going up against the Lions swiss cheese pass defense this week. Make no mistake, Blake Bortles is probably the most disappointing quarterback in the NFL this season. But he continues to post solid fantasy numbers in spite of this and should be considered a weekly option.
Eric Ebron, TE, Detroit – Anyone following my column knows that I’ve been a big Ebron supporter this year. He’s had seven receptions in each of his two games back from injury and had 79 and 92 yards respectively. Tight End is extremely top heavy this year and yet Ebron has managed to fly somewhat under the radar, only being owned in 67% of Yahoo leagues. He’s a borderline must-start player and should have another solid performance in Week 11.
Sits
Ty Montgomery, RB/WR, Green Bay – One of two things has to be the cause of Ty Montgomery’s ridiculously low usage in Week 10. Either his illness was more serious that the Packers are letting us know, or head coach Mike McCarthy doesn’t like to use productive players in his offense and would rather let them rot with James Starks in the backfield. Regardless of which one it was, things don’t look promising for Montgomery with Christine Michael joining the backfield and complicating things even further. I hope Montgomery returns to his role in the offense. I just don’t see it happening anytime soon.
Cameron Meredith, WR, Chicago – With Alshon Jeffrey suspended, Meredith seems like the guy that will eat up his targets. But what is there really even to eat up? Jeffrey had just one game with over 100 yards this season and one game with five receptions with Jay Cutler at quarterback. Additionally, Meredith has absolutely no proven chemistry with Cutler, and the only career success he’s has was with Brian Hoyer at quarterback. And on top of all this, Jay Cutler is still the Bears quarterback, and Jay Cutler is currently not looking like a starting NFL quarterback. I’m staying away from Meredith despite his obvious upside.
Pittsburgh Defense – Pittsburgh is going up against the winless Cleveland Browns this week and are a hot streaming option in a great matchup. However, the Steelers have been really bad on defense this year. Even with one of the best possible matchups this week, I just can’t see myself playing this terrible defense at such a crucial point in the fantasy season. Expect a shootout from the Browns this week and expect another Browns loss, but don’t expect the Steelers defense to be the reason they win this game.
Corey Coleman, WR, Cleveland – Despite going against the brutal Pittsburgh defense this week, I find it hard to trust Corey Coleman at the moment. He’s only had six receptions in his two weeks back since returning from injury, and hasn’t even hit the 50-yard mark. He’s got plenty of ROS upside, and at some point should return to fantasy relevance. I’d like to see some production first before I put him in my lineups.
Dion Lewis, RB, New England – Two of last year’s breakout fantasy stars, Dion Lewis and Thomas Rawls, are finally returning from injury in Week 11. And while there is a case to start Rawls this week, it’s hard for me to imagine a scenario where starting Lewis is acceptable. New England’s backfield has been led by LaGarrette Blount on the ground and James White through the air this season. Lewis is surely going to take touches from both of them, especially White, but it’s unlikely it’ll happen in his first game back this season. He’s not worth consideration until we see him in action.
