The Los Angeles Rams continued to add offensive line depth by selecting C Brian Allen from Michigan State. He was selected in the fourth round, 111th overall of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Allen is capable of playing all interior lineman spots but will likely focus at center. He stands at 6’1” and weighs about 305 pounds. He has a motor and tends to run his oppositions into the ground. His aggressiveness is highly coveted. Playing in a pro-style offense with Spartans will help his learning curve in the NFL.
The majority of Allen’s issues stem from physical characteristics. He is a tad undersized and his arms are short which are both common among NFL centers. Allen also lacks speed but that too is common with centers.
This pick is evidence that the Rams were more concerned about the offensive line depth than initially thought. It was thought that Allen might have been available as low as the sixth round. The Rams nonetheless have opted to secure Allen for a potential replacement for John Sullivan.
