With the free agency period underway, next on the agenda is the 2015 NFL Draft. It will once again be another class filled with plenty of talent across the board at every position, especially at wide receiver. Last year’s crop was arguably the best in the past decade with players such as Mike Evans, Odell Beckham Jr., Kelvin Benjamin, and Brandin Cooks all having stellar rookie campaigns. The 2015 class is shaping up to bring in another group of talented wideouts, and near the top of that list is West Virginia’ Kevin White.

WR Kevin White Height: 6’3” Weight: 212 lbs. Overall college record: 11-14

After spending his first two years at Lackawanna College, White transferred to West Virginia for his junior year in 2013. He had a subpar season recording just 35 catches with 507 receiving yards, and five touchdowns. White was used sparingly as the Mountaineers leaned more heavily upon running back Charles Sims to carry the offensive load.  Sims was the team’s leading rusher and was tied for most receptions that season.

However, White made a significant leap in his senior season finishing third in the country in receptions (109), sixth in receiving yards (1447) and tied for 19th in touchdowns (10). Along the way, he emerged as one of the best wide receivers in the country earning national recognition as he was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff award, which is given to the best wideout. White also began the 2014 season with a school-record seven straight 100-yard receiving games and set West Virginia’s single-game record with 16 catches against Texas on Nov. 8, 2014.

Strengths: White possesses the ideal body frame for an NFL receiver. His excellent speed and quickness, which he ran a 4.35 for the 40 at the combine. Combine that speed with his ability to run intricate routes and he becomes a hard cover for defenses. His size and strength along with decent hands allow him to soar above defenders to make difficult catches in traffic. White has big play-making ability as his quick burst of speed can turn a short-to-intermediate catch into a game-changing play. He is also a major factor in the red zone because he is able to overpower and tower over defensive backs in coverage.

Weaknesses: While he has the desired body type for the position, White has struggled with his ability to block.  He had problems last season sustaining blocks and picked up several penalties as a result of that. White also has difficulty creating separation from defenders with moves or fakes. He also must learn to how to make space against press coverage coming off the line of scrimmage.
