Week 9 NFC West Preview: Arizona Cardinals to be tested again

The NFL is about at the halfway point, and it’s becoming clear that the Arizona Cardinals may just run away with the NFC West if they keep up their momentum. Here’s a look Week 9’s NFC West games:

Arizona Cardinals @ Dallas Cowboys: The Cardinals convinced some of their doubters that they are top contending team with a victory over the Eagles last week. In Week 9, they must go on the road to face an irritated Cowboys team. The Cowboys proved that they aren’t a flawless team after losing to the Washington Redskins on Monday Night. The key for the Cardinals is stopping DeMarco Murray which is easier said than done. Murray still managed to earn 141 yards on the ground despite the loss, and he is on pace to breaking Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record.

Quarterback Tony Romo’s status isn’t certain for Sunday, but the Cowboys definitely could use him going against the Cardinals’ top-notch secondary. The Cowboys must be able to defend against the Cardinals’ aerial assault. Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald had his best game of the season last week snagging 160 yards and one touchdown courtesy of Carson Palmer. I made the mistake of doubting the Cardinals last week, I definitely won’t do that again this week.

Prediction: 28-27, Cardinals.

St. Louis Rams @ San Francisco 49ers: Are the Rams ready for a rested 49ers team? No. Even with the addition of safety Mark Barron, the Rams could be short in the secondary mostly at cornerback. Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson were unable to play last week and their presence was missed considering Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith completed 86 percent of his passes. The Rams will be without the services of left tackle Jake Long and wide receiver Brian Quick. The team might be too banged up to compete against a physical 49ers team.

The 49ers cannot afford to lose a game like this in order to stay alive within the NFC West. The game is at Levi’s Stadium, all they need to do is contain the Rams like they did in St. Louis and they have this game wrapped up.

Prediction: 38-13, 49ers.

Oakland Raiders @ Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks have had their offensive struggles but if they can’t score on the Raiders, especially on the ground, they might hand the Raiders their first win of the season. There is a bit of animosity between running back Marshawn Lynch and the coaching staff but that must be put aside if they want to continue winning games. Although, the Raiders will have to manage to score too which has been part of their endless problems. If the Seahawks lose this game, they may as well forget any mention of the playoffs. Prediction: 30-14, Seahawks.
