Another shake up within the NFC West means even more “must watch” football in Week 7. Time will tell if the Dallas Cowboys are legitimate Super Bowl contenders or if the Seattle Seahawks just aren’t the superior birds that fans have been led to believe. The Arizona Cardinals were happy to have Carson Palmer back in their victory over the Washington Redskins. The St. Louis Rams once again showed up to play in the first half, but fell asleep in the second half, which the San Francisco 49ers were more than happy to take advantage of.
Here’s a look at Week 7’s NFC West games:
Seattle Seahawks @ St. Louis Rams: As crazy as it may sound, the Rams aren’t as bad as their record claims. If they would consistently play an entire game like they do in their first halves, they might be on top of the division. The Seahawks didn’t exactly play a complete game last week either. What’s even more puzzling is why running back Marshawn Lynch registered only 10 carries? The Hawks won’t limit Lynch that much against the Rams and their poor rushing defense.
The Rams’ struggles against the run are well documented, but against the 49ers, they couldn’t stop the pass either. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson didn’t exactly throw up impressive numbers last week, only passing for 126 yards and one interception. None of that matters if the Rams’ secondary is constantly getting beat from receivers like Brandon Lloyd. The Seahawks defense wasn’t that impressive either at home. In other words, this will most likely be a close game if the Seahawks defense doesn’t shape up, and I’m thinking an upset alert is in order.
Prediction: 27-24, Rams.
Arizona Cardinals @ Oakland Raiders: It looks like the Cardinals have a bye week in Week 7. Wait, didn’t they already have a bye week? Oh there is the mix up, the Cardinals are playing against the 0-5 Raiders, my mistake. Joking aside, the Raiders will most likely struggle against the Cards. The best chance for the Raiders to come out of Week 7 with a win is to get their running game going; they only average 70.2 yards per game. The Raiders run defense is just as bad giving up 149.8 rushing yards per game. Cardinals’ running back Andre Ellington is seeing nothing but open field in Oakland, and that means another potential loss.
Prediction: 38-14, Cardinals.
San Francisco 49ers @ Denver Broncos: Okay, I made this mistake once in believing that the Cardinals can enter Sports Authority Field and leave with a win, and sadly, they just looked silly. True, the 49ers are a different team and have been on roll as of late, but the Broncos have demolished just as many opponents too. A Broncos win could certainly suggest another possible Super Bowl appearance, while a 49ers win could mean they are contenders as well.
The Broncos need Peyton Manning to be Peyton Manning, but if the 49ers can avoid the penalties and rattle him by establishing pressure along the offensive line, this could cause panic in Denver. The 49ers’ run game needs to somehow make an appearance because it seems to have disappeared lately. Carlos Hyde and Frank Gore may just be the players needed to escape with a win.
Prediction: 34-27, Broncos.
