2015 First Round (10th overall): Georgia RB Todd Gurley
Even though his recent departure to the Atlanta Falcons took many by surprise, Gurley’s efforts and Rams stats speak for themselves. Drafted out of Georgia by the St. Louis Rams, the 6’1,” 224-pound running back impressed the league immediately.
In his rookie season, Gurley had 226 carries for 1,106 yards and ten touchdowns. He was named to the 2015 NFL All-Rookie Team and awarded 2015 NFL AP Offensive Rookie of the Year. The 2016 season was Gurley’s worst in terms of yardage and touchdowns, but he redeemed himself in McVay’s new reinvigorated offense the following year. The Rams went from a 4-12 record to 11-5. In 2017, Gurley had 279 carries for 1,305 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also had 64 catches for 788 yards and six touchdowns. His stellar performance earned him 2017 NFL AP Offensive Player of the Year. In 2018, Gurley had 256 carries for 1,251 yards and a career-high 17 touchdowns. He also had 59 catches for 580 yards and four touchdowns. He led the league in rushing touchdowns for 2017 and 2018.
The 2019 season was Gurley’s lowest performance in three years. This was mainly due to his limited snaps because of concerns over his arthritic, surgically repaired left knee. He still had 1,064 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns and tied Marshall Faulk’s franchise rushing touchdowns record. For his career, Gurley has 1,265 carries for 5,404 yards and 58 touchdowns as well as 218 catches for 2,090 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Offensive lineman Rob Havenstein and linebacker Bryce Hager were also drafted in 2015. They are about the only ones that could be mentioned in this draft class.
