2014 First Round (14th overall): Pittsburgh DT Aaron Donald
Donald is a given for top draft choice of 2014. Throughout his career with the Rams, he has not only been consistent as a defensive tackle, but he has dominated and terrified offenses. Donald was drafted by the St. Louis Rams out of Pittsburgh. He joined the Rams’ defensive line alongside Quinn, Long and Brockers, creating a stalwart defensive line in their older 4-3 defensive scheme. Donald had 48 tackles, nine sacks and two forced fumbles in his rookie year. He was also awarded NFL AP Defensive Rookie of the Year.
He was second in team sacks in 2014 just under Quinn, but he led the defense in sacks for the next five seasons. Donald also led the NFL in sacks with 20.5 in 2018, ranking seventh all-time for sack leaders in a season. For his career, he has 312 tackles (117 tackles for a loss), 72 sacks, 173 quarterback hits, 15 forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, 11 passes defended and one safety.
In 2019, Donald had 48 tackles and 12.5 sacks. The 6’1,” 280-pound defensive linemen continues to impress with evasive skills that keep offenses on the back of their heels. It is not unusual for him to be double, triple and sometimes quadruple-teamed by blockers. Look for him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton in the future.
