2011 First Round (14th overall): North Carolina (Chapel Hill) DE Robert Quinn
Quinn was a strong, productive defensive lineman for the Rams. Drafted out of North Carolina by the St. Louis Rams, the 6’4,” 245-pound defensive end made his mark as a sack machine between 2012 and 2014. Quinn led the league with 23 tackles for a loss in 2013. That season, he had 19 sacks, a career-high 50 solo tackles, seven forced fumbles, two fumbles recovered and one touchdown.
Injuries plagued him during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, limiting his playing time. He made it to Los Angeles for two seasons upon the Rams’ return and was moved to linebacker in 2017. That year, Quinn earned 32 tackles (nine for a loss) and 8.5 sacks. He is currently the fifth all-time franchise sack leader with 62.5.
Quinn was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2018 and then the Dallas Cowboys in 2019. This season, he led the Cowboys’ defense with 11.5 sacks. The Chicago Bears just acquired him in a trade for the 2020 season.
Tight end Lance Kendricks was also drafted in 2011. Kendricks had strong stats throughout his tenure with the Rams and is the second all-time franchise receiving leader for tight ends. It may be argued that either player could be top pick for 2011, but Quinn had more output as a player. He was dominant in his all-around defensive stats. Even now, his career seems to be ramping up and Kendricks’ career appears to be regressing.
