The St. Louis Rams and recently acquired quarterback Nick Foles agreed to a two-year contract extension on Friday, August 7. Foles is now signed through the 2017 season since the extension is added to his current contract, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
The agreement is worth $24.5 million and nearly $14 million of it is guaranteed. Foles can void the deal if he makes the Pro Bowl roster or based on the Rams’ record.
The Rams acquired Foles from the Philadelphia Eagles in a blockbuster trade which included Sam Bradford. From there, the Rams named him the starter for the 2015 season.
Foles did have an opportunity to showcase his ability during training camp, and it appears that the Rams are willing to invest in the former Eagles quarterback. He did capture the attention of his new teammates. Tight end Jared Cook had this to say about Foles, “He’s everything that you want in a quarterback,” Cook said. Cook added, “It just feels like he belongs here, and it feels like he’s been here for a while, which is a good piece.”
Cook isn’t the only one that’s been impressed with Foles’s work ethic. Head coach Jeff Fisher had plenty to say during a press conference after a training camp practice at Lindenwood University. “It’s a good deal for us, good deal for him,” Fisher said. Fisher continued by saying, “He’s done a lot of good things for us in a short period of time.”
If Foles lives up to his praise, the Rams could challenge the reigning NFC West champion Seattle Seahawks for the division title.
