The Rams back in Los Angeles: A childhood revisited

Seeing the Rams leave Los Angeles was heart breaking. Yes, I was young when it happened, but sports have been a part of my life since practically birth. I recall asking my Dad if we can still go to the games only for him to unintentionally crush my dreams by stating that the Rams were moving to faraway place called St. Louis.

I know more than anyone what it’s like to have your favorite team stripped away from your city. I witnessed friends and family members exchange their Rams gear to that of another team. I couldn’t do that. To me, the Rams were still my favorite team. So for 21 years I still supported the Rams, but at a distance. I made sure to make a trip to San Diego or Arizona whenever I could.

Seeing the Rams come back to Los Angeles is beyond anything I can describe in words. Actually, some analogies do come to mind, but remember, I am a passionate sports enthusiast. After hearing the news that the Rams were indeed coming back to Los Angeles, it was like getting a second chance in life (we all know how rare that is), or like “seeing the one that got away” decide to make an effort to give the relationship another chance. Yes, I went there.

Ultimately, the move provides me with the opportunity to relive my childhood, only this time through the eyes of a professional. Channeling my inner child won’t be difficult now that I can actually attend the games regularly, and at the very least, watch them on television. Keep in mind, it was pretty rare that the Rams were televised in California. Gone are the days, where I was forced to watch at a bar while not being able to listen to the game.

I only wish it could have happened sooner. As I’ve said, sports are a huge part of my life, and it’s because I get to share my experience with loved ones. Unfortunately, some of my “Ramily” is no longer with us to enjoy the wonderful news. However, I’d like to think of them as “contributors” regarding the move, working ever so diligently on those “heavenly strings” to persuade the Rams to return home. I am certain they will be present in spirit as the Rams attempt to capture the gold in Los Angeles once again.
