The Los Angeles Rams waited until Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft to select Florida State RB Cam Akers 52nd overall. The Rams stood their ground and now have a new running back in the fold.
The Rams released Todd Gurley earlier this offseason leaving the Rams with Darrell Henderson, Malcolm Brown and John Kelly. The Rams also announced that they plan on running a running back-by-committee so the addition of Akers isn’t a huge surprise.
The intrigue with Akers is his blocking ability, which is something that Henderson doesn’t excel at. He’s a different type of runner and is a playmaker. He found the end zone plenty of times despite being behind awful offensive lines. Those two attributes in mind, Sean McVay may have found a new weapon for the 2020 offense.
In three seasons with the Seminoles, he earned 2,875 rushing yards on 586 attempts and 27 touchdowns. Also keep in mind that 14 of those touchdowns came last year along with 1,144 yards.
