The Los Angeles Rams fired head coach Jeff Fisher’s contract days after his 2-year contract extension was released to the public. The Rams named special teams coach John Fassel as interim head coach for Thursday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The decision comes a day after the Rams suffered yet another embarrassing loss, this time 42-14 at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. The Rams have lost eight of their last nine games, which marked them at a mediocre 4-9 record. Of course, Fisher not having a winning season since joining the Rams in 2012 didn’t help either, and held a 31-45-1 record in nearly five years with the team.
Owner Stan Kroenke made an official statement stating that, “Making a decision such as this, especially during the season, is one of the most difficult in sports.” Kroenke went on to mention that he still has a great amount of respect for Fisher, but the move needed to be done since the end goal is to bring a Super Bowl to Los Angeles.
The Rams will face the Seahawks on Thursday night in Seattle. The game will be televised on NFL Network.
