St. Louis Rams running back Trey Watts will be suspended the first four games of the 2015 season after violating the league’s substance abuse policy according to Profootballtalk.com. Watts will be eligible to return in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers.
Watts may have ruined an opportunity at keeping his roster spot now that he’s facing a suspension. He had less competition after the team parted ways with Daryl Richardson and Zac Stacy earlier this offseason, but now he’ll likely be at the bottom of the depth chart when he returns.
Watts did play a reserve role last year, playing in 14 games and earning 30 yards on seven carries. There is no word yet on whether or not the Rams will take any action as a result of the suspension.
Watts is entering his second year in the NFL and managed to make the Rams’ roster as an undrafted free agent from Tulsa University. The former Golden Hurricane played three years at Tulsa and was a standout player, running for over 1,000 yards in two of the three seasons.
