The St. Louis Rams found help at quarterback in former Houston Texans quarterback Case Keenum on Monday, September 1. The team claimed him off waivers early in the day.
The Rams needed more experience at the quarterback position following Sam Bradford’s season-ending ACL tear on August 23. Keenum became available after the Texans made a deal with the New England Patriots for Ryan Mallett this past weekend.
Houston signed Keenum as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and started eight games for the team one year later. Keenum produced his best game for the Texans in Week 8 when he completed 20 of 34 passes for 350 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He finished the season completing 54.2% of his passes for 1,760 yards nine touchdowns and six interceptions.
The Rams placed TE Justice Cunningham on injured reserve with an ankle injury to make room on the roster for Keenum. He’s likely to be the team’s No. 2 quarterback behind Shaun Hill within a couple of weeks.
