Former Los Angeles Rams safety Marqui Christian signed a 1-year deal with the New York Jets. The contract details haven’t been announced yet.
Christian was one of the Rams’ unsung heroes for the past two seasons. Last season, he was valuable especially when John Johnson went out with an injury. Christian split roles serving as a backup at safety and occasionally playing a hybrid linebacker role.
In four seasons with the Rams, Christian earned: 83 tackles and three pass deflections. Currently, he is expected to serve as the immediate backup in the Jets’ safety depth chart.
The Rams will have to figure out if the current safeties on the roster will suffice, or if they will eye some undrafted free agents. As of now, Nick Scott and Jake Gervase would serve as the team’s backups with Johnson and Taylor Rapp starting.
WR Mike Thomas signs with the Cincinnati Bengals
Mike Thomas and the Cincinnati Bengals agreed to a 1-year contract. Although, the contract details weren’t available either.
It took the Rams four seasons, but they have finally walked away from Thomas. He was originally drafted 206th overall of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Southern Mississippi.
Thomas is best described as a “preseason warrior.” He is a player that played exceptionally well during the preseason, but didn’t make any sort of impact during the regular season. To put things into perspective, in those four seasons, Thomas earned just 10 receptions for 144 yards and no touchdowns.
This isn’t a huge loss at all. The Rams can replace Thomas easily.
