The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Oakland Raiders 19-15 on Saturday, August 18 at the Memorial Coliseum. John Kelly scored the Rams’ only touchdown of the game in the second quarter.
Both teams struggled to find any offensive rhythm throughout the game. Since the Raiders and Rams play each other to open the 2018 season, both teams kept their playbooks closed and relied on a simple power running attack and the short passing game.
Quarterback Sean Mannion completed 10 of 16 passes for 84 yards to lead Rams quarterbacks. Kelly registered 18 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown. Finally, wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge caught two passes for 57 yards.
Meanwhile, Raiders quarterback Connor Cook failed to get anything going, but his teammate E.J. Manuel picked him up in the second half. Down 16-0, Manuel led the Raiders back to win one point, despite taking three sacks and losing a fumble. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, the 16-0 deficit proved too much to overcome. Rams quarterback Brandon Allen led the Rams downfield for one last field goal to seal the 19-15 victory.
The Rams (1-1) remain home to host the Houston Texans on Saturday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. PT. KCBS will televise the game.
