Former Jacksonville Jaguars LB Daryl Smith will visit the St. Louis Rams on Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This is the first time the Rams have been linked with a free agent publicly since the team signed LT Jake Long.
The Jaguars selected Smith in the second round (39th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Georgia Tech. He is a 2-time Pro Football Focus All-NFL team member, which includes a spot on the first team in 2011.
Smith has spent his entire nine-year career with the Jaguars, but he was released from the team during this offseason. He remains the Jaguars’ all-time leader in tackles with 679, and he also added 21.5 sacks, six interceptions and nine forced fumbles throughout his tenure with the club.
Smith may not be the “flashiest” name out there, but he is known for his consistent play and durability. He missed only two games in his career prior to injuring his groin in 2012. If healthy, Smith could fill a need at outside linebacker alongside James Laurinaitis and Jo-Lonn Dunbar.
