The Los Angeles Rams will reportedly be looking to cut or trade wide receiver Tavon Austin once free agency officially begins. Nothing officially has been mentioned, but this came from a source reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise since Austin is expect to make $8 million this year. The 2013 No. 8 overall draft pick struggled to find a role last season despite the offense improving under rookie head coach Sean McVay.
Austin didn’t pan out as a receiver, especially since Sammy Watkins joined the team. He lost his role as a kick/punt returner to pro bowler Pharoh Cooper. McVay did try to incorporate him in the offense as a situational running back, but he had limited success there.
Austin is more of a luxury than necessity at this point. He only had 270 yards rushing, 57 yards receiving and one touchdown last season.
