Only half of the NFC West was represented in Week 9 action. This week’s results almost ended in upsets, but the most surprising came from the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks narrowly escaped defeat from the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home. Seattle drove the game into overtime after scoring 17 unanswered points, including what led to a game-winning field goal with the final score, 27-24. Zac Stacy and Chris Johnson were the stars in the showdown between the St. Louis Rams and the Tennessee Titans. The Rams committed a late turnover and lost, 28-21. The San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals had bye weeks.
Team Notes:
- Seattle Seahawks: Russell Wilson passed for 217 yards, two touchdowns and was picked twice. Wilson also rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown. Marshawn Lynch powered through the Buc’s defensive front for 125 yards on the ground. Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse combined for a total of 118 receiving yards and each caught a touchdown pass. Earl Thomas racked up 12 more tackles to add to his Pro Bowl campaign. Bobby Wagner was all over the field picking up 11 tackles and had one and one-half sacks.
- St. Louis Rams: Kellen Clemens passed for 210 yards and one touchdown. Zac Stacy scored his first two rushing touchdowns of the season and ran for 127 yards. Stacy also caught six passes out of the backfield for 51 yards. James Laurinaitis had nine tackles and one sack. Kendall Langford terrorized Jake Locker and the Titans’ offense by picking up six tackles and had two sacks. Rodney McLeod and former Titan Cortland Finnegan combined for a total of 12 tackles and each had one interception. The defense surrendered 198 rushing yards and four touchdowns to the Titans; 150 of the rushing yards belonged to Chris Johnson.
