The Los Angeles Rams’ drive toward their first season in Southern California since 1994 is well underway. Here is a swing around the various media outlets covering Rams as they prepare for its opening preseason home game against the Dallas Cowboys:
Hard Knocks
The Rams debuted on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” on Monday night with plenty of stories to tell. Both the Orange County Register and the L.A. Times provided recaps on the first episode. One highlight from the episode shows head coach Jeff Fisher telling his players that 7-9 is not acceptable this season. Another highlight let fans in on the personal side of the players with center Eric Kush’s tank top collection.
Jared Goff
There are plenty of stories surrounding rookie quarterback Jared Goff. One thing that is becoming clear is that Goff isn’t quite ready to be an NFL starter. That doesn’t mean he won’t be ready in a month, but Goff is still learning the system. Orange County Register’s Vincent Bonsignore noted that the team is happy with Goff’s progress, but Case Keenum will serve as the team’s starter against the Cowboys this Saturday.
Deon Long cut
The Rams cut WR Deon Long earlier in camp and now we know why. Long was caught with a woman in the team’s dorm, which drew the ire of Fisher. The coach spoke with Long about the incident during the first episode of “Hard Knocks” and released him for breaking team rules. Long later signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Coliseum capacity expanded
There will be a bigger crowd than expected on Saturday night. The Rams are experiencing greater demand for tickets to the Cowboys game, as well as the opening regular season home game against the Seattle Seahawks. The team responded to the demand by expanding capacity to the Coliseum around 91,000, according to the L.A. Times’ Sam Farmer. If there was ever any concern about whether or not the Rams would draw in Southern California, it’s obvious that concern is unfounded.
