Just a day after the Los Angeles Rams announced that OG Joseph Noteboom is out for the season with a torn ACL and MCL, the Rams trade for Browns’ OL Austin Corbett. The Rams surrendered an undisclosed 2021 draft pick according to the Rams’ Twitter account.
Head coach Sean McVay made a statement yesterday that the Rams will likely look internally for starters at the guard position. Of course, this trade doesn’t necessarily mean that Corbett becomes the automatic starter. He must learn the playbook and wasn’t the starter in Cleveland, and they too have had their fair share of problems on the offensive line. Corbett was thought to take the starting role at the guard position this season, but was benched in favor of Eric Kush.
Corbett does also have the capability of playing center too. Brian Allen has struggled in his first season as a starter. It’s possible that the Rams simply wanted versatile depth.
The Browns selected Corbett is the second round (33rd overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was a highly touted prospect despite coming from Nevada.
