The Los Angeles Rams selected Utah safety Terrell Burgess with the 104th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. Burgess joins a secondary featuring fellow safeties Taylor Rapp and John Johnson III.
General manager Les Snead filled a positional need by taking the versatile Burgess. The Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention honoree emerged as a legitimate prospect as a senior at Utah. He compiled 81 tackles, including 7.5 for a loss, and with one interception and five pass breakups.
However, it wasn’t the numbers that set Burgess apart. Instead, Burgess proved adept in multiple roles as a senior. He lined up in five different spots in 2019, including defensive line and linebacker. The Rams featured Rapp as a hybrid type player prior to Johnson’s injury last year. Former safety/linebacker Mark Barron also played a hybrid role for the team during his tenure, establishing a norm for Rams safeties to be capable of filling various roster needs.
The Rams entire the final day of the draft with four picks remaining and several holes still unfilled. Expect the Rams to look at cornerback, linebacker and the offensive/defensive lines on Saturday.
