The Los Angeles Rams fell 17-9 to the Denver Broncos on Saturday, August 28. It was the Rams’ first loss in the 2016 preseason.
The Rams took an early 6-0 lead behind two Greg Zuerlein field goals. Quarterback Case Keenum led the Rams downfield on both scoring drives. He completed 8 of 12 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown overall in a quarter and a half of play.
The Broncos finally got their offense going midway through the second quarter. Denver spent most of the first half focusing on the running game, but head coach Gary Kubiak finally opened his playbook late as quarterback Trevor Siemian found receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas for a combined seven receptions for 108 yards. The Broncos took a 10-9 lead into halftime.
Rams rookie quarterback Jared Goff struggled in his third game. He completed 4 of 12 passes for 45 yards. He wasn’t helped by multiple drops from Rams receivers during his limited time. Third string quarterback Sean Mannion didn’t fair much better. He completed 6 of 12 passes for 43 yards and took four sacks against the Broncos’ backups.
The Rams fall to 2-1 on the preseason and will head to Minnesota to play the Vikings on Thursday, September 1 at 5:00 p.m. PT.
