DL Tanzel Smart entered 2017 hoping to earn a rotation role with the Los Angeles Rams. Smart played his college football at Tulane where he was a starter his senior season. The Rams drafted him in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft (189th overall) overall as a depth piece.
Smart is the type of player who is not the most imposing physically, but his tenacity is what made him such a threat at Tulane. He showed that tenacity throughout the 2017 season, playing in 16 games with four starts. He recorded 14 tackles in the center of the defensive line.
