The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly signing veteran LB Clay Matthews to a 2-year deal. Sources are suggesting the maximum Matthews can earn is $16.75 million, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
While nothing is official yet, sources say that Matthews did have more lucrative offers on the table. He likely took the Rams offer to be closer to home.
The Rams do bring in a veteran edge rusher, but the finances are a bit of a concern considering if the sources are accurate. The Rams didn’t have much cap space and they are also adding QB Blake Bortles. They still have to sign their 2019 NFL Draft class too so they may have to be creative with their finances.
Matthews will likely take over Samson Ebukam’s starting role. His leadership skills will be an asset to help coach the younger linebackers. Expect Wade Phillips to be a little more creative with his blitzing too.
After spending a decade with the Green Bay Packers, his stats are impressive. His career totals are 494 tackles, 83.5 sacks, 15 forced fumbles and 6 interceptions.
