The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Dallas Cowboys 13-10 at the Los Angeles Coliseum on Saturday, August 12.

Rams starting QB Jared Goff participated in two series, completing 3 of 4 passes 39 yards. He looked more comfortable, albeit for two drives, than at any point last season. Backup Sean Mannion took the bulk of the snaps under center, going 18 of 25 for 144 yards.

The Rams scored their only touchdown of the evening with 10:49 left in the first quarter after Cooper Kupp recovered a fumble by WR Robert Woods inside the end zone. After the Rams and Cowboys reserves traded field goals in the second and third quarter, Dallas tied the game late in the third after a Rico Gathers 25-yard touchdown pass from backup Cooper Rush. The Rams earned the win with a 36-yard field goal by backup K Travis Coons.

It is hard to grasp how the Rams offense did, but in a game full of backups, Los Angeles racked up 271 total yards in the three-point victory. Kupp caught two passess for 35 yards, while Nelson Spruce led all Rams’ receivers with six receptions for 30 yards. Justin Davis led the rushing attack, finishing with 70 yards on nine carries this evening. Todd Gurley had a short stint in the first quarter, rushing for two yards on four carries.

One thing Rams head coach Sean McVay needs to work on is holding onto the football. The Rams fumbled the ball five times, which something that will not cut it by any NFL standards. McVay knows that despite tonight’s win, a lot of work still needs to be done:

“Well take the win however we can get it.”

The preseason opener took place in front of a paid attendance of 62,888.
