ILB Dakota Allen, Texas Tech (Rookie)

Dakota Allen is more well-known than most seventh-round draft picks thanks to the popular Netflix documentary series, “Last Chance U.” Allen is lucky, and received a rare second chance at life. He appears to be on the proper track after shining for the Red Raiders in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. In college, Allen had a career 379 tackles (200 solo), 4.5 sacks, 16 pass deflections, five interceptions and four fumble recoveries.
Allen is looking to make a mark on the Rams’ special teams squad, but is also eyeing the inside linebacker vacancy. Although Micah Kiser is slotted to play inside linebacker, Allen could take advantage of the opening. Keep in mind that Kiser had every opportunity to solidify a starting role last season, but didn’t see the field much as a rookie. If Allen is hungry enough, he is capable of taking the starting role.
Allen did standout as a special teamer at Texas Tech. He hopes to impress coach John Fassel with his skills in training camp and the preseason. He may surprise fans and coaches with his kick return coverage and his skills at linebacker. Allen is a good size for the Rams’ linebacker corps at 6’1” and 232 pounds. His speed, tackling ability, covering skills and ability to stop the run will be a strong addition to the Rams defense.
