MIKE NELSON/EPA Rams wide receiver Nelson Spruce stretches into the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter of Saturday night's preseason game at the Coliseum. The Westlake High graduate had six catches for 51 yards in his NFL debut and the Rams' first game back in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Dallas Cowboys 28-24 in their preseason home opener at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, August 13. This was the Rams first game back in L.A. since the 1995 season.

The Rams started quarterback Case Keenum against the Cowboys.  Keenum played three series, completing 6 of 7 passes for 58 yards. Benny Cunningham ran through tacklers and scored with a 14-yard run in the first quarter.  The score was the Rams’ first points in the stadium they played in from 1946-1979.

No. 1 overall draft pick Jared Goff was welcomed to the NFL by getting sacked in his first pass attempt early in the second quarter. He then threw an interception seconds later. Goff completed 4 of 9 passes for 38 yards and an interception, but did not return in the second half due to stiffness in his left shoulder.

Sean Mannion started the second half and threw three touchdown passes to rally the Rams past the Cowboys. Mannion completed 18 of 25 passes for 147 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.

Rookie wide receiver Nelson Spruce led all Rams’ receivers with six receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown. Second-year pro Malcolm Brown led all Rams’ running backs with eight carries for 66 yards.

The Rams will face the Kansas City Chiefs in their second preseason game on Saturday, August 20 at 6:00 pm PT in the Coliseum.
