The Los Angeles Rams took Day 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft, but they got down to business quickly in the fourth round when they took Western Kentucky tight end Tyler Higbee with the 110th overall pick. Higbee gives No. 1 overall selection Jared Goff a big target for their rookie season in the NFL.
Higbee actually played wide receiver while at Western Kentucky, but at 6’6” with decent blocking skills, he definitely made a better tight end. He is known for his reliable hands after dropping only one pass in 2015. However, his best trait may be his physical strength. Higbee is strong enough to battle for the tough yards and even drag defenders with him.
Initially, Higbee was thought to be an early Day 2 pick, but his draft stock fell after dealing with some off-the-field and sustaining a knee injury that forced him to miss some time.
In nine games last season, Higbee snagged 38 receptions for 563 yards and eight touchdowns. Expect Higbee and TE Lance Kendricks to be Goff’s go-to targets in the red zone.
