The Los Angeles Rams officially announced their radio partnership with ESPN Radio Los Angeles (710 AM) in conjunction with FM station 100.3 “The Sound” in a multi-year simulcast agreement on Monday, June 20. With the Rams returning to the radio waves in Los Angeles, the return to 710 AM provides a special significance, because this station carried the Rams up until they left after the 1994 season.
In addition to broadcasting games on ESPN Radio on AM and 100.3 on FM here in Los Angeles, ESPN has also agreed to produce hours of Rams related content before, after, and in between game days. As the Rams enter the 2016 NFL season, ESPN will provide at least three hours of pregame Rams coverage on game day, and a two-hour postgame show after each contest. In addition to gameday content, ESPN Radio will provide exclusive content by interacting with Rams players each week, daily reports on the Rams during the NFL season, and one-hour game previews each Thursday during the season (provided that the Rams are not playing that night).
Every Monday during the season, head coach Jeff Fisher will have a one-hour show each week where he will talk about what happened during the previous game, explaining his gameplan and the playcalling decisions. In addition, Fisher will talk about the next week’s opponent, giving the public insight into the Rams preparations for each contest.
The Rams have made a concerted effort to provide as much content as possible to their listeners on ESPN Los Angeles in their first season back in the Southern California area. With the simulcast of The Sound 100.3 FM in Los Angeles, the Rams’ extra exposure into the FM radio waves allows even more fans in a broader area to hear the Rams 50th season in Los Angeles.
ESPN L.A.’s acquisition of the Rams’ broadcasting rights puts the radio station in a powerful spot now airing Lakers and Rams games on the same radio station. It’s also important to note that AM 710 in Los Angeles is the ESPN west coast flagship affiliate, where many personalities from the television network do radio shows. The Rams made a wise move in choosing ESPN as their flagship radio station over the other large sports talk station, FOX Sports AM 570.
