Week 7 NFC West roundup: Seahawks, 49ers control the West

Week 7 is in the books, and the top two teams of the NFC West extended their lead in the division. The Seattle Seahawks improved their record to 6-1 with a 34-22 victory over divisional foes the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals’ record dropped to 3-4. The San Francisco 49ers had a convincing 31-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans, which increased their record to 5-2. Meanwhile, the St. Louis Rams were smothered by the Carolina Panthers’ defense in a 30-15 loss. The Rams are now back below a .500 winning percentage with a record of 3-4.

Team Notes:

  • Seattle Seahawks:  Russell Wilson was comfortable in the pocket. He passed for 235 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions and had 29 rushing yards. Marshawn Lynch had another quality start rushing for 91 yards and one touchdown. Wilson spread the ball out finding Zach Miller, Golden Tate and Sidney Rice for a combined total of 167 yards and two touchdowns. Seahawk’s defense pressured Carson Palmer throughout the game, picking up a total of seven sacks and two interceptions.
  • Arizona Cardinals: Carson Palmer made some poor decisions under pressure but still managed to pass for 258 yards and one touchdown. The ground game was held to a mere 30 yards. Rob Housler and Michael Floyd combined for a total of 124 receiving yards. Calais Campbell had a total of eight tackles. John Abraham sacked Russell Wilson twice.
  • San Francisco 49ers: Colin Kaepernick passed for 199 yards, rushed for a total 68 yards and had one rushing touchdown. Frank Gore racked up 70 rushing yards and had two touchdowns. Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis combined for a total of 136 receiving yards. Patrick Willis had nine tackles, and Justin Smith sacked Jake Locker twice.
  • St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford began the game with a pick-six but improved as the game went on passing for 255 yards and had one touchdown. Zac Stacy rushed for 53 yards and caught four passes for 34 yards and one touchdown. Brian Quick reeled in two passes for 97 yards. The offensive line allowed four sacks. James Laurinaitis was all over the field accumulating 11 tackles and had one sack. Eugene Sims caused a safety.
