The Los Angeles Rams trade multiple times and select Washington S Taylor Rapp

Well, it took awhile but the Los Angeles Rams finally brought in Washington S Taylor Rapp 61st overall of the 2019 NFL Draft. Believe it or not, this is the Rams’ first pick in this year’s Draft.

Let’s try to keep track of all the trades shall we? The Rams began by trading their 31st overall pick to Atlanta Falcons, which did give them the 45th and 79th picks. The Rams sent the 45th pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for their 56th and 101st picks. The 56th pick became the Kansas City Chiefs for their 61st and 167th picks. Still with us?

This NFL Draft does have plenty of talented safeties. This selection is for the future of the defense. The Rams did sign Eric Weddle earlier this offseason, but he is on the decline of his career. While Weddle is still among the better safeties in the league, he did flirt with retirement. This gives Rapp an opportunity to learn from Weddle and the coaching staff.

Rapp is one of the best safeties in the nation and was thought to go in the first round. For the Rams to select him at pick No. 61 is an absolute steal. This is a guy that possesses good size, speed and loves to hit hard. There’s a reason the Rams brought him in for a pre-draft visit. Expect him to contribute on special teams and put in situational plays. For more information on Rapp, take a look at our draft profile.
