Offseason 2017: Los Angeles Rams trade William Hayes to the Miami Dolphins

The Los Angeles Rams continued to alleviate some cap space room by trading veteran defensive end William Hayes to the Miami Dolphins late last night. The Rams will also surrender a seventh-round pick (223rd overall), and receive a sixth-round pick (206th overall) in the trade.

Hayes signed a 3-year, $17.5 million contract last year. There is $10.5 million remaining on his contract, with $5.5 million towards the cap this year. Hayes has been a productive player on the Rams for the past five years, but this move serves mostly as a financial decision.

The Dolphins will receive a veteran defensive end that plays consistently when healthy. During five seasons with the Rams he earned, 150 tackles, 26.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. Last year, he had five sacks and 31 tackles in 14 games.
