NFL Week 3: L.A Rams head to San Francisco with much to prove

The 1-1 Los Angeles Rams look to bounce back when they face the 0-2 San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, September 20.

After throwing a late interception to end any chance at victory, Rams quarterback Jared Goff and company hope to build on the team’s improved offensive performances. Despite the late game mistake, Goff seems to be a legitimate NFL quarterback. He completed 15 of 25 passes for 225 yards and one touchdown and that one interception against the Washington Redskins. With the Rams playing on Thursday night, all eyes will be placed on Goff to see how much he has improved over last season.

Can running back Todd Gurley build on his performance from last week against Washington? Gurley scored both Rams touchdowns last week, including one receiving and one rushing touchdown. Gurley totaled 88 yards rushing and caught three passes for 48 yards. His improvement showed when looking at last season and film from the Redskins’ game. Expect Gurley to produce his first 100-yard rushing performance of the season Thursday night.

The Rams defense needs a significant improvement from last week. The Redskins carved up the Rams front line to the tune of 229 yards on the ground, averaging nearly six yards a carry Sunday. The Rams will face a team that is among the worst in football on offense after two games. However, the talented running back Carlos Hyde awaits as one of the few weapons on the 49ers offense. Don’t expect quarterback Brian Hoyer and the 49ers receiving corps to move the ball well against an aggressive Rams defensive front seven.

The Rams will finally beat the 49ers for the first time since moving to Los Angeles. Look for the Rams offense to be effective enough to earn a win against a 49ers team that has not scored a single offensive touchdown this year.

PREDICTION: RAMS 24 49ers 10.
