The Los Angeles Rams to sign QB Blake Bortles

The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly wrapping up an agreement with quarterback Blake Bortles, according to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington. Contract details aren’t final as of this time.

The former Jacksonville Jaguar didn’t live up to his 2014 third overall pick draft status. While Bortles did have some forgettable moments, he did show potential from time to time. Bortles will serve a backup role to Jared Goff.

The Rams did need to some depth now that Sean Mannion is a free agent. The Mannion experiment didn’t develop into anything. The opportunities that were given to him, he did not flourish at all.

Bortles’s experience as an NFL starter is desirable considering if Goff ever goes down with an injury. Another thing to consider is that Goff is entering a contract year. Theoretically, Bortles could be an option if the Rams are unable to sign Goff to an extension. Although, it’s not likely since Goff has seen much more success. Sean McVay does have time to monitor Bortles’s progress this upcoming year to see if that idea has any validity.

Playing five seasons with the Jaguars, Bortles has career totals of 17,646 passing yards, 103 touchdowns and 75 interceptions.
