Darrell Henderson will be a much-needed versatile running back for the Rams backfield depth. Todd Gurley is still the favored starter, but the attention to his left knee gave coaches enough concern to draft him. Henderson is an explosive ball-carrier that will give the Rams more outside running ability.

While at the University of Memphis, Henderson rushed for a total of 3,082 yards and 40 touchdowns. He is considered one of the best value draft pickups in the 2019 NFL Draft. It’s unknown how much the Rams will use Henderson, but he has the skillset they need for big plays. Henderson can evade tackles, run over defenders and use his incredible speed to break away for big yardage. How this will translate in the NFL remains to be seen. Henderson does not boast Gurley-esque measurements at only 5’8”and 208 pounds, but he carries the power.

The Rams did retain running back Malcolm Brown and appears to still be the main backup to Gurley. Both backup running backs will ease the workload on Gurley. Watch for big things to come from Henderson, he’s simply too talented to keep on the bench.
